Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, released in Japan as 悪魔城伝説 [Akumajo Densetsu] The Legend of the Devil's Castle was released after Castlevania II: Simon's Quest (NES) and is the the prequel of Castlevania (NES). The Japanese release features an additional audio chip which expands the music and sound capabilities. The player controls Simon's elder, Trevor Belmont. The game functions more like the first Castlevania as a side-scrolling platformer. You use a whip to slay monsters, get power up weapons, and beat bosses. As an addition, you team up with one of three sidekicks, each with a unique special ability and are able to choose different paths to reach the ending.
