Using Cheats - Nestopia
This is a guide for adding cheats from the NES Hacker Wiki into the Nestopia or Nestopia UE emulators.
Easy cheats allow you to temporarily modify NES games like Game Genie codes, only they're more powerful, and you can have as many as you want! To use the cheats follow these instructions:
1.) First, launch Nestopia and load the ROM you want to play. For this example, I'm using Super Mario Bros..
2.) Next, click on Options in the menu and then click Cheats... to open the Cheats dialog.
Looking at the Easy Cheats list on the Super Mario Bros. page, you'll notice that the first cheat is named "Start With 9 Lives (Both players)," and it has the following information:

3.) In the bottom left of the Cheats dialog, under the Temporary Codes section, click Add... to open the Add Code dialog.
4.) First, click the Use hex checkbox located at the right-center of the Cheats dialog.
5.) Next, we need to enter this information into the text boxes in the section marked Raw.
6.) Click in the Address text box and type in the Addr portion of the cheat, which in this case is "906A".
7.) Click in the Value text box and type in the Val portion of the cheat, which is "08".
8.) Click in the Compare text box and type in the Cmp portion of the cheat, which is "02". Not every cheat has a Cmp portion, if you see a dash (-), just leave the text box blank.
9.) Click in the Description text box at the bottom of the dialog and type in the Description portion of the cheat, in this case, "Start With 9 Lives (Both players)".
10.) Click Submit and you'll see your cheat added to the Temporary Codes list.
11.) The checkmark at the beginning of the list item indicates that the cheat is active. You can click the checkbox to deactivate the cheat and the checkmark will be removed. You can reactivate it by clicking it again.
12.) Click OK to close the Cheats dialog.
13.) Start the game and you'll discover that you start with 9 lives instead of the usual 3! Some cheats require you to restart the game to take effect. If a cheat doesn't appear to be working, try restarting the game.
Your cheat will be implemented and saved automatically. You can now enjoy your favorite game with infinite lives, invincibility, any power up, higher jumps, and many other game-breaking cheats.
