Super Mario Bros. 2, スーパーマリオ ブイエスエー [Supa Mario Buiesue] Super Mario USA, is a reworking of the Japanese game Yume Koujou: Doki Doki Panic (FDS), and is not the same Super Mario Bros. 2 that was first released in Japan on the Famicom Disk System. Japan eventually released their version of Super Mario Bros. 2 in the USA in the SNES game Super Mario All Stars (SNES) under the title, The Lost Levels, and the Mario-themed remix of Yume Koujou: Doki Doki Panic was eventually released in Japan as Super Mario USA.
While this game has several elements of the first Super Mario Bros. (NES) -- it's a platform action game with a lot of running an jumping -- it has several new aspects as well held over from the Japanese original. You now get to play one of four characters, Mario, Luigi, Peach, or Toad. Each one has various abilities regarding jumping height, distance, speed, and strength.
